Tel Aviv, that vibrant, thriving city at the heart of modern Israel, announces many things to the world.

portfolio She says, ‘I’m historically significant, so appreciate me.’ She says, ‘I’m a technological and scientific metropolis, so take me seriously.’ She says, ‘I’m a major economic and corporate centre, so trust me.’ She says, ‘I have amazing architecture and infrastructure, so analyse me.’ She says, ‘I value and promote education, so learn from me.’ She says, ‘I’m a cultural hub, so be inspired by me.’ She says, ‘I have great cafes and shops, so lose yourself in me.’ She says, ‘I have beautiful beaches and an enviable climate, so relax with me.’

Optimistic and ambitious, it’s little wonder that the nations of the world have noticed her, discussed her, envied her. But it’s the things that Tel Aviv whispers – not announces – that we should perhaps pay the most attention to.

She whispers, ‘I’m lied about by the world, yet I act with integrity.’ She whispers, ‘I’m surrounded by enemies, yet I strive daily for peace.’ She whispers, ‘My citizens die for me, so for their sakes I’ll persevere.’

As this inspirational, forthright city celebrates her hundredth year, she whispers, ‘I’m Israel, so support me, love me and fight for me’.
